Gospel, Power of God Unto Salvation

The Gospel is the power of God onto my salvation.

Are Sinners Forgiven Too?

Author: Paul Ellis

Post Title: Are Sinners Forgiven Too?
Written on:  18.08.2011

I get asked more questions about forgiveness than any other subject. “Am I really forgiven? What if I sin and don’t repent? What if I don’t confess? What if I backslide?” I have written numerous posts on all these points, but forgiveness seems to be a blind-spot for many. We just can’t get it into our heads that God might forgive us without any action on our part. That just sounds too good to be true. What are you trying to tell us? That God is good? That the gospel is actually good news?

If you’re uncertain about God’s forgiveness, your faith will be weak and unproductive. So to demolish any uncertainty, I want to ask a bold question: Are sinners forgiven? You would have to agree that if God has forgiven sinners, then surely He has forgiven Christians who don’t repent or who forget to confess some of their sins? If we can see from scripture that sinners are forgiven, then just maybe we’ll be able to rest assured that we are forgiven too.

Four prophets

So are sinners forgiven? I’m going to call on four great prophets to answer this question. Here’s David:

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12)

When David sinned with Bathsheba, everyone knew about it. It was a public sin that led to death for at least two people and brought David pain and regret. He said, “I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me” (Psalm 51:3). By all rights, David should’ve been executed for his sin. The law covenant under which he lived had a legitimate claim on his life (Leviticus 20:10). But David appealed to the One who is greater than the law. “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your loving-kindness” (Psalm 51:1, NKJV). David was not trying to excuse his sin – he knew full well that he had done a terrible thing. But he had a revelation of a compassionate Father “who does not treat us as our sins deserve” (Psalm 103:10). He asked God to “blot out my transgressions” (Psalm 51:1), and through the prophet Isaiah, God said He would:

I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. (Isaiah 43:25)

Isaiah 42-45 is a four chapter advertisement for the new covenant. Isaiah 42 tells us about the coming Savior and Isaiah 43 tells us about the “new thing” that He will do. What is the new thing? “I will blot out your transgressions and remember your sins no more.” What an amazing new thing! Under the old covenant, sins were recorded and remembered (Leviticus 4-6). But under the new covenant they would be blotted out and remembered no more. Isaiah was not the only one to see this coming. Here’s Jeremiah:

This is the covenant I will make… I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. (Jeremiah 31:33-34)

Imagine hearing this while living under the old law covenant. I would’ve asked, “When, Lord? When will you do this great new thing?” Well by the time we get to Hebrews we learn that God has already done it. Jesus appeared “once for all… to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself” (Hebrews 9:26). “When this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down” (Hebrews 10:12). When Jesus did away with all sin, the prophecies were fulfilled. Hebrews even quotes them just to make sure we don’t miss the connection: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more” (Hebrews 10:17). Jesus didn’t die just for confessed and repented sins. He died for all sin. Just look at the words of our fourth prophet, John the Baptist:

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)

Whose sin did Jesus take away? The sin of the world! Does the world include sinners? Yes! Then sinners are forgiven. Their sins are no longer being recorded:

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)

Men have sins but God is neither counting them nor remembering them. How can you say such things! Sinners aren’t saved! I didn’t say they were. But they are forgiven:

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins… (Colossians 2:13)

When were your sins forgiven? When you were dead in your sins! In other words, you were forgiven before you repented, before you confessed, before you were born again. In fact, you were forgiven long before you were born. How is this possible? I didn’t do anything to merit His forgiveness. Exactly! That’s why it’s called grace.

Don’t believe the bad news

God doesn’t need your permission to forgive you. His forgiveness is entirely based on the finished work of the cross. Those who claim we must do stuff to be forgiven are saying that Jesus needs to come and die again, that once wasn’t enough. This is called bad news and it’s not in the Bible. Don’t believe it. Jesus didn’t die for some sin but all sin. His one-time sacrifice for the sin of the world was perfectly perfect and completely complete in every respect.

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:2)

Paul, you sound like you’re preaching universalism. I’m not – I’m telling you the same good news that the prophets foretold and the apostles declared: God the Son has done away with sin! Neither God the Father no God the Holy Spirit remembers our sins anymore! This is the gospel truth. Do you believe it?

Put your faith in the good news

Jesus said that forgiveness of sins is a gift that must be received (Acts 26:19). Two kinds of people will never receive this gift: (1) Those who don’t think they’re sinners in need of a Savior and (2) those who think they must do things like confess and repent to earn God’s forgiveness. (In case you’re wondering, 1 John 1:9 is directed to those in the first group – see 1 John 1:8.) The grace of God can only be received through faith (Ephesians 2:8). Everyone is forgiven but not everyone believes that they are forgiven. Those who don’t believe reject the gift that God offers them.

Jesus said the Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin because men do not believe in Me (John 16:8). Sinners don’t need the Holy Spirit to tell them that they’re sinners. If their own consciences don’t condemn them, the law will (Romans 3:20). The Holy Spirit is here to convince the world that our sins been blotted out and removed as far as the east is from the west. The Holy Spirit is here to reveal Jesus and the finished work of the cross.

I want to add my little voice to the mighty Holy Spirit and shout the good news from the rooftops: You are forgiven! You may be the worst sinner on the planet but by the grace of God you are forgiven! You may be a saint who has drifted into sin but you are forgiven! Whether you have confessed everything or nothing at all; whether you have repented or are still senseless in the pig pen – you are forgiven! Whether you believe or don’t believe the gospel – you are forgiven!

A proper response to this good news is to turn to God and put your trust in His amazing grace. This is called repentance. We don’t repent to get forgiven; we repent because we are forgiven. If you are still unsure about this, review the scriptures above and then tell yourself, “I am totally forgiven because of Jesus.” All the blessings that are ours in Christ – His acceptance, righteousness, holiness – flow from the revelation that we have been completely and eternally forgiven through the precious blood of the Lamb. See Jesus sitting down at the right hand of the Father. He’s not running around cleaning up your sins. His redemption work is done and He now invites you to enter His rest.

Can You Lose Your Salvation?

Is it possible for a Christian to lose his or her salvation? Those who say that it's certainly possible point readily to the warning in Hebrews 6 as Bible proof. But what is Hebrews 6 really all about? Who are the people being warned here? Joseph Prince tackles these questions head on in this exciting message and sheds light on this controversial topic. This must-hear message will help you determine whether you live life with your eternal security hanging in the balance, or with your heart fully assured that heaven is your home.

A Thought On My Birthday

Our parents did not asked for our consent, when they gave birth to us into this world. We as parents, we too, did not seek the consent of our children when we gave birth to them. For everyone born into this world, if we do not have Jesus' salvation, our life is bound for eternal destruction.

As for salvation, when Abba Father wanted to born us into His world, He mobilizes the resource of Heaven and His Spirit to seek our consent to believe in His Begotten Son, so that we can put our trust in Him and bound for everlasting life!

John
3:16 ~ "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
3:17 ~ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

So never complain that we are not given a choice as to which family we were born into... Here is the chance for each and everyone of us to exercise our consent to be born again into the richest family of this universe, the Kingdom of Light!

He who has ears, let him hear.

Are You Fighting Against The Grace That Saved You?

Apostle Paul, a people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee, as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless.  But in his pursuit of the grace of God, he realized whatever was to his profit then, he considered loss for the sake of Christ. He resolved to know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified; this was a stumbling block to those of the religious group and foolishness to the people of this world.

For the foolishness of God is wiser the man’s wisdom and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. That is why Paul is not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. The Good News is the power of God… The message of God’s grace is the Good News from Heaven and the message of grace is the power of God…

Through Jesus’ Finished Work on the Cross, Father God had turned the facts of this world into the truth in Christ! This triumphal process of divine exchange at the Cross took God more in creating the universal. He only had to speak in creation, while in His pursuit of redeeming mankind; He had to offer up His One and only begotten Son at the cross.

But thanks be to God, Who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spread everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him. For those who are enlightened by His grace, are to God the aroma of Christ, among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

Here is the Good News, and the power of God… Father God had saved the world two thousand and ten years ago! He had already lavished His grace into this fallen world. For He so loved the world that He had already given His begotten Son two thousand and ten years ago, that whoever, whenever believed in Him will not perish but have eternal life!

We are actually living in an already saved, already delivered, already healed but an ignorant and unbelief world…! Even the body of Christ is ignorant and full of unbelief because they are still fighting against the Grace that saved them. God’s grace is not only for those who preach grace. God’s grace is not only for Christian. God’s grace is for this fallen world! As long as you call yourself a human being, God’s grace is for you…! Believers have forgotten that they were saved by His grace through faith, and majority of the sincere believers are fighting against the GRACE that had saved them…!!!!

Galatians 1:6 ~ I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, ...

While we were STILL DEAD in our sins, He made us alive together with Christ, and raised us up together with Christ and seated us together with Christ in heavenly places…!

We all know that 5 is a number for grace… The following 5 stages of the declaration made by Father God in John Chapter 3 verse 16 says it all…

  • 1. For God so loved the world (He loves us)
  • 2. That he gave His begotten Son   (He gave Heaven best)
  • 3. Whoever believe (Not work, no string attached)
  • 4. Shall not perish (A Promise not a reward)
  • 5. Have eternal life (A blood made covenant)

Is this not grace? Is it this grace that you are after or against?

Jesus Gave Me My Prison Break 11 Years Ago!

Dead To Sin? How? - 29 August 2010 Message Excerpt

Romans 6:17~18   But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

You and Your Household Will Be Saved!

Act 16:31 ~ They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household."

My mum was a hardcore idol worshiper before she has finally decided to commit herself to the Lord at the age of 80 years old.

This evening, she was baptized by her Pastor, witnessed by close family members and members from the Trinity Methodists Church.

All this while, she has been fallen sick with minor Alzheimer’s disease and from time to time, she can only remember the thing of the past. Though I had led her with the sinner prayer, this could never get into her memory. To human eyes, the chance for her to get saved is almost impossible. But I remember what Jesus had said before, "What is impossible with men is possible with God." My mum can be down with Alzheimer’s disease, but I know for sure that my Lord is not down with Alzheimer and that moment she called out His Name, she was saved. Indeed,  He is the One who saves her... What an unearned, unmerited favor from God!

So in Jesus' Name, I rebuke the Alzheimer disease to leave my mother!

Once again, I have witness my Lord’s grace and faithfulness. Thank you Jesus…

Revival

Do you know that the revival that many Charismatic Christians are seeking for has actually already happened?

The Finished Work of Christ is that REVIVAL! The Finished Works of our Lord had changed everything. The Finished Work even changed the principle of repentance. Under the Old Covenant, man repented from their sins because God was against sin; while under the New Covenant, man repents towards righteousness because the sins issue had been satisfied at the Cross and Jesus’ righteousness had been freely and fully lavished upon those who believed in Him. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved! Jesus’ Finished Work at the Cross looks more like the revival many charismatic Christians are seeking through their regular fasting and fervent prayers.

Hey, the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For the Old Covenant Saints, they were looking forward prophetically to the cross for direction while as for us the New Covenant Saints, we look back to Jesus’ Finished Work for revelation. It is all about the revelation of the righteousness of Christ that we already have; the peace He had brought forth through the punishment He sustained at the Cross and the joy of never losing our salvation because of that mighty REVIVAL! The revival had already happened two thousand years ago; and what we need now is not fasting and praying for revival but fasting and praying for the revelation of what had happened in that revival! It is all about Jesus and His Finished Works. This is the everlasting revival!

I pity those good-hearted, on fire Christians who commit themselves in the Old Covenant fasting and praying for revival. They still believe that revival will not come unless there are sufficient fasting, ample prayers and “real” repentance… Before long, these good-hearted, on Fire Christians are burnt out instead burning up.

How can we receive revelation from that mighty revival which happened two thousand years ago? The answer is praying and fasting! WHAT...??? Yes, praying and fasting..., the New Covenant way!

So, stay tune…

Resurrection Life of Christ

In Deuteronomy chapter 28 verse 10, the Word of God says we are called by the Name of the Lord. The name “CHRISTian” is derived from Resurrected Christ and the disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. Since the death of our Lord at the Cross, those who called themselves Christian are the believers of the resurrected Christ and they are all after the cross under the New Covenant. If only Christian can understand why they are called Christian because of the fact that there are still a lot of Christians belief in the shadow of the Old Testament that is before the Cross and of which they have no part in it. Christians are born again through the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the born again Christians are baptized into His death…

Romans 6:3 ~ Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

We participated in Jesus’ death when the Holy Spirit placed us in Christ and made the things that He died to accomplish a reality in our lives. This happened the moment we accepted Christ as our Saviour and we were born again by the Holy Spirit with a brand new, righteous identity called “New Creation”. Christ was buried and raised again on the third day and appropriating what Jesus did for us require our cooperation.

When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus. Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we're going in our new grace-sovereign country. Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer at sin's every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ's sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. This is the life of a New Creation, the resurrection life of Christ! Every born again Christians had participated in the death of their old man through Jesus but not all Christians cooperate with Christ in His resurrection life, which in fact, is a by-product of being put to death in His body.

Without much understanding of this big and sensitive word called “sin”, Christians start digging out their dead bodies (which they call resurrection life) and go back to obey the Law, busy dealing with their sinful action. This is not the by-product of dead to sin but a by-product of a Christian religion trying to deal with sin through the Commandments and commune from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Let's see what Paul (who was once a Pharisee and had the understanding of the Ten Commandments from inside out) had to say about sin and it is important for us to understand that he was talking about the sin nature, not sins, an individual action of sin. Out of the forty-nine times this word sin is used in Romans (“sin” thirty-seven times; “sins” four times; “sinned” five times; “sinner” one time; “sinners” two times) forty- seven times it’s talking about the old sin nature (“old self”) in the NIV version, not individual actions of sin. We know this because the Greek word from which “sin” and “sins” was translated forty-seven out of the forty-nine times isn’t a verb but a noun. If you remember English class, a noun always described a person, place or a thing.

We are never being addressed as an individual but addressed under a governmental representative of Adam or Christ and the same applied to the Israelites in the Old Testament as well. They were represented by their High Priest. So as Adam sinned, we are leave with our sinful nature but praise is to the Lord, our Lord Jesus who knew no sin was made sin on our behalf and through His righteousness, we are all made righteous.

A resurrection life of Christ is a life of truth living out by the grace of God through faith. Our Lord Jesus said He came to give us life and life more abundantly. This is the abundant Life from the Tree of Life. Hey friends, don’t go back to the shadow while we have the Substance. Don't go back to Law while we have the grace of God. We are a New Creation with resurrection life of Christ… Religion deals with the fruits (our actions) while our Lord Jesus dealt with the root (our nature) …

If you have put your trust in Jesus and because of your faith you called yourself a Christian, you are forever righteous. Commune from the Tree of Life and the resurrection life of Christ will manifest …

Triply Secured Salvation

Can a Christian lose his salvation? Ha... what a controversial question! First and foremost, we are talking about a born-again Christian. This statement, however, leads to a problem: How do we know if someone is truly born of God? In some cases, it is really hard to tell and only God would know. However, as God is gracious and merciful, we must not expect overnight changes in the person and underestimate the work of the Holy Spirit in his life. We need to ask ourselves how long we take to bear fruit due to our stubbornness and our Lord’s grace and patience.

Ephesians 2:5b ~ it is by grace you have been saved.

Romans 11:6 ~ And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

Let’s look at more scriptures that clearly support our eternal security and it is comforting to note that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are involved in keeping us saved!

The Father

John 10:29 ~ My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one snatch then out of my Father’s hand.

The Son…

John 10:28 ~ I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.

A Christian might argue that he can “snatch” himself out of the Father’s hand by wilfully renouncing Christ. But he forgets that “no one” in John 10:28~29 includes him too. The KJV translates it as “no man” and notice that “man” here is italicized. This means that the word was added by the translators – “man” is not in the original Greek text. So, a fuller meaning of the verse is actually “nothing can snatch them out of my hand” — be it man, demons or angels!

Jesus said, “I give them eternal life; and they shall never perish.” Common spiritual sense tells us that “eternal life” is not “eternal” if it can be cut off at some point. Also, “never’ simply means “never”. It can’t get any simpler than that! God’s truths are always simple, and doctrines should be built on simple, clear-cut scriptures, not on obscure passages. This eternal life is given to us by God the moment we are born again. As long as we have eternal life – we are not waiting to get it someday and eternal life does not begin after we die physically.

1 John 5:12-13 ~ He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

2 Corinthians 1:22 ~ set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Ephesians 1:13 ~ and you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 4:30 ~ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

The Holy Spirit in us is the son-ship seal of God and a guarantee to us. Can God’s ownership seal be broken? Certainly not! The Holy Spirit is also a deposit placed in our hearts by God and this means that God is coming back to claim what belongs to Him! Take note that God does not have to guarantee us anything for His word alone is sufficient and He cannot lie. Yet, He is gracious and merciful to give us this assurance of guaranteed salvation!

What a Triply secured salvation…!

The Heart of God

When God wanted to judge the world, He made Methuselah (Noah's grandfather) to be the longest living man in the world before He opened up the floodgates of the heavens to judge the world with flood.. Methuselah lived for 969 years! (Methuselah had Lamech at 187 years old. Lamech had Noah at 182 years old. The flood came when Noah was 600 year old.) (187 + 182 + 600 = 969).

When God wanted to save the world, He allowed His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to die at the age of 33.

God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. No one who has faith in God's Son will be condemned. But everyone who doesn't have faith in Him has already been condemned for not having faith in God's only Son.

When we were born into this world, our parents did not seek our consensus. We in turn gave birth to our children without seeking their consensus. People of this world are born into this world not knowing that we are actually ending up in destruction if our life is without Jesus.

When our Lord was born into this world, He was conscious of why He was born into this world. He knew that He would die for the world at the cross. He was born to die… Through His righteous act at the cross, whoever believed in Him are born again into His kingdom. Now, everyone of us who was born into this world without our full consensus, can now born again through our Lord Jesus Christ with our full consensus. It is because when the Father saved each and every one of us, He allows the Holy Spirit to first seek our consensus by prompting our heart to believe in Jesus Christ. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

This is The WAY to eternal life.
